Back To School.pngWelcome Back to Highland Park Middle School, home of the Owls!

Highland Park Middle School is back in session and our staff and students have been busy establishing relationships and getting to work!
Our school's shift towards Restorative Practices places the student/teacher relationship at the forefront of instruction.

Student Writing.png MS Newspaper
The Newspaper club meets every Tuesday from 3-4 pm in Room 208.  Mrs. McLoughlin is the Advisor. There are five issues produced throughout the year.
Students do not have to join to submit articles, poetry or artwork, but we would like to have lots of participation from all three grade levels.

Bookworm.pngBattle of the Books

Students read from a list of 14 books selected by NJ media specialists. The students create their own teams of 6 students. These teams compete against each other in Jeopardy style competitions.  Practice takes place every day during student’s lunchtime. All books are available in the library to check out.  A final competition will be held at Manalapan Middle School in May 2018. Please see Mrs. Puccio, with any questions.

Chemistry Lab Flasks.pngScience Bowl
Middle School students who are passionate about Science and Math are welcome to participate in Science Bowl Club that meets every Thursday. All interested students by default will be part of Science Bowl club. Our first meeting was on Friday, 9/8/17.
Students will participate in the National Science Bowl for Middle School during the school year:
- National Science Bowl (NSB) is a highly competitive science education and academic event among teams of high school and middle school students who compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math.
- The first level of competition will be the NJ Regional that will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL).
- The winner of the NJ Regional will attend the Nationals to be held in Washington, D.C.  on April 26 – April 30, 2018.
- The Science Bowl Club will hold weekly meetings where students will study and prepare for the competition.
- Teams will be selected based on written tests and buzzer rounds.
